Taking the plunge, bought some books...

I'm on vacation and I stopped into a gaming store outside of Charlotte, NC, and picked up the brand-new Hero System 5th Edition Revised, along with Star Hero, and I'm hoping to start a new sci-fi campaign when I get back, most likely set in a universe based on the cult TV series Firefly.

I've been taking peeks at the books during my hotel room downtime, and it's interesting seeing how some of the rules have been updated.

It's been well over ten years since I last ran a Hero campaign, but as I read through the rules it's starting to come back to me.

Yay! I hope your campaign turns out great. I hear Firefly is totally addictive, but I haven't had the chance to see it for myself yet. You should buy the Spacer's Toolkit, so you can add really nifty gadgets, starships, and schtuff! That'd rock! Of course, I *may* be a little biased, since it's my sweety's first solo book. ;D

BTW, your cat looks a LOT like Ben's cat, Raccoon. Cute!

Actually, Spacer's Toolkit was the next thing I was going to buy. The Firefly universe is not as big into gadgets as it is into interpersonal relationships, storyline, and humor, but I certainly need some good writeups of guns and ships. The fanciest gadgets would be the ones that are owned and used by the planetary government in the campaign, and would often be illegal for PCs to own or use. Not that that would stop them, of course.
